The simple way to protect us is in the hands of ISPs

After reading "Harnessing the Web to Sell Online Security", I suddenly realize that many ISPs have offered virus protection services as a kind of added service, sometimes free of charge.

No matter it was a mistake or omission or kind of ignorance, the Internet has been built without putting the responsibility of safety to any parties.

In fact, all virus, scam and spam must be sent from somewhere through an ISP, just criminals must take the traffic to perform their sin. Policemen may block the road before or after to get the bad guys. With the knowledge and technique today, it would not be impossible for that ISP to scan the virus, scam or spam. Of course, I do not mean that ISP needs to act alone. The law enforcement or related organizations can support the ISP for the safety of everyone online.

It may be easier to say than done and I do not expect all ISPs to stop the online problems. But, at least, when cases turned out, it will be possible to find the sources or the IP addresses. Therefore, we just need an international law or rule to penalize the subscriber or ISP. The best way is to let them take responsibilities for all or a major part of the loss that occurred.

Just like any mishaps, we have to find the originating source and to perform protection at the very front instead of working hard to recover.

Remember that without such move, no matter how many times we install upgraded protection, the threat remains.

Even when such action concerns regional protection or political conflicts among countries, the simple way is to shut off that ISP or region or even the country if they refuse to co-operate.

Websites can be located anywhere; yet going online must be relied on domestic ISP. The source is obvious and I believe that taking up such action is not impossible. Nowadays, most governments are looking for a way to protect their online nationals. Perhaps it is the right time to get something done at the right spot with a proper and forceful way for a better future.
